The Nature of Emotion

Emotional Control is considered a mark of maturity by some and a sign of insensitivity by others. What causes emotions, and what purpose do they serve?

It seems to me that there are two forms of emotional control, one ego (i.e. fear) based and the other self determined (i.e., love based). Ego control is insensitive, while self determined control is maximally sensitive.

Mis-emotion is an indicator. When things are not in alignment with the highest good, I get a sort of yucky feeling, even if I have no clue as to what still needs to be aligned. It’s always the intellectual side that screws things up. The instinct and the emotion try to tell it how it is, but the intellect grabs control and starts pontificating & judging all over the show.

There is frequently a recurring “marker” that relates to one main theme that is running through my life at any particular time. For instance, I may find cynicism and mis-emotion manifesting all around me, with people getting upset because their crazy intellects are telling them something that their instincts and emotions should be correcting, if only they were not allowing themselves to be over ruled by ego based intellect.

“Like attracting like” also happens, and the whispers from the universe around me gradually become shouts, with more and more similar situations happening until I do something to address the issue

I suggest that each emotion has an instinctual belly component, a perceptual heart component and an intellectual head component, and that these three need to be in alignment with each other for life mastery to be achieved in the relevant area of that person’s being, awareness and willpower. In other words the belly chakra (centre of instinct), the heart chakra (centre of synergising) and the head chakra (centre of intellectualising) need to come together. Only completely aligned instinct, emotion and intellect are physically, mentally and spiritually real. Incompletely aligned “instincts, emotions and intellectualising”, all of which for clarity I refer to as mis-emotions, are incomplete and to that extent they are unreal and illusory.

Memory is re created whenever the intellect is focused upon it and brings with it the re created emotions and instincts from the past, to which re labelled explanations of that past emotion are then added. The re labelling drifts, with more and more error being introduced. The unreal takes the place of the real even when the situation first happens, but as time passes, re labelling gradually introduces more and more illusory (expedient) explanations and the person becomes more and more separated from the fruits of direct observation in the here and now.

Emotional Maturity I would therefore suggest happens when one’s mis-emotions (feelings of upset) are such that one realises that one’s belief system has become out of alignment with one’s true instincts and emotions and one starts to address the problem of immaturity, It doesn’t matter how one takes back one’s power, as long as one does it, but to achieve life mastery one needs somehow to become more or less the permanent master of one’s own instincts, emotions and intellect.

When all three are aligned, both inside the body (as the limited self) and outside the body (as the unlimited self) one can begin to appreciate what it must be like to be The Creator. In a way, the only value of creating a Creator in ones own image is to enable one to occupy the most powerful viewpoint in the Cosmos, namely that of one’s own self created Creator. Logic tells us that there must be an actual Creator but any attempt to describe he / she / it is doomed to failure. So we make do with approximations. Gradually the approximations get better and the confidence of getting closer and closer to an accurate description of All That Is also gets more and more.
