NARROW MINDED SCIENTISTS :
in a Pal Talk chat room called “Evolution is a fact” there was a confrontational situation between the “science only” majority and one other person, who was proposing the additional possible viewpoint of a Creator (maybe a cosmic computer for all I know) being responsible for the spiritual, emotional, mental and even physical evolution of All That Is. Both the other person and myself were bounced by these self styled logical thinkers when they found themselves unable to handle the logic we were using. Our (in their minds only) attack on their pet beliefs was along the following lines.
All except the greatest of scientists tend to talk with certainty regarding their rightness, despite the fact that the sciences of the past are now recognised as having been many times wrong. Aided and abetted by the religious societies of their time, they have acquiesced when real scientists, on pain of ex‑communication or death, were forced to believe whatever was the current scientific fashion.
The only difference between the narrow minded scientist of today, with his belief that “if it can’t be measured, it doesn’t exist” and the more open minded modern explorer of both scientific AND religious theories, is that the open minded comparer is far less sure of him or her self than the passionately self opinionated scientist.
Anyone who listens to these amateur scientific “thinkers” insulting the “open minded” when they come face to face with them in chat rooms, quickly realises that despite their arrogant tone, the amateur scientists are actually trying to defend their own wishful thinking. If that were not so, then they would not need to pontificate in such a self elevating and bullying manner. This a evidenced also in chat rooms, when they even put anyone who disagrees with them onto “red dot”, “ignore” or “bounce”.
Professional scientists quite rightly spend almost all of their time inventing subjective ideas and then trying to prove or disprove them. Mostly their initial theories turn out to be wrong, but occasionally their persistence is rewarded and the availability of resources leads them to some new truth. That is what scientists are supposed to do.
Admittedly they do still limit themselves to those phenomena that can be subjected to physical measurement (thereby failing to integrate all of the other (senior) evidence provided by the existence and functioning of consciousness).
Scientists cannot measure consciousness and therefore prefer to subjectively jump to the conclusion that it is some sort of outcome of physicality, instead of the other way round.
Evolution itself is a fact, but all theories about it are illusory approximations. Some theories, including those of science, are closer to the truth than those of most religions and certainly closer than those of personal, self righteous pseudo scientific opinions.
Only the truly open minded scientist is ever likely to discover real truth; only then will religion and science support each other and not always be in opposition.
One of the problems with all belief systems, including “scientific” theories about evolution, religions and any other belief systems for that matter, is that the theorist and his proposed physical evidence is always assumed (by him alone) to prove exactly what he has already subjectively decided in the first place.
Science is nothing more than a very well intentioned, usually over opinionated and often erroneous religion. It is more objective than most religions but that is all it is. At one time science itself claimed with equally dogmatic assurance, that the world was flat.
Belief systems come in four basic categories, firstly TYPE ONE (those based upon fear and blind prejudice), secondly TYPE TWO (those based upon socially accepted convention), thirdly TYPE THREE (those based upon illusory but highly intellectual debate) and finally TYPE FOUR (those based upon a recognition that beliefs are capable of proving anything and that therefore, continually closer approximation of recorded evidence to ongoing observation is the nearest we will ever get to truth).
Scientists in the main are in the TYPE 3 category of highly intellectual, highly passionate but mostly self deluding debate. They are in exactly the same category of belief system as the fundamentalists they ridicule, apart from their primary illusory belief that “only measurable phenomena actually prove anything”. In that belief they are just as fundamentalist as any other. Their science is their religion and that is proven by the fact that they worship it, and get upset if anyone describes it as not much better than a continually updated religion. Their science is their sacred cow.
The normal member of the public creates their own belief system, their own reality and their own state of consciousness from a combination of type one, two and three beliefs.
Very few nowadays adhere purely to type one belief systems.
Religious persons tend to be limited to types one and two beliefs.
Adolescents and most scientists tend to focus on type three, but later on settle back into a combination of type one and two for the rest of their lives.
Scientists like Newton, Darwin, Einstein and Hawking, and hopefully ourselves, consciously incorporate type four considerations into their genuine science. This is where true religion and true science come together and the subjective truly does become objective, albeit on an individually objective basis.
Participating in chat groups dominated by type three thinkers is a total waste of time, unless the purpose is to experience the intellectual bullying that takes place and to observe all the first three types of thinker in operation. Type four thinkers tend to experience such rooms for a while and to then avoid them like the plague.
